It all depends on you really. How much damage you want to inflict, the mod ect. I prefer Swords or Axes never liked hammer, I get the impression that they slow the character's movements somehow. Hammer inflict great damage though.

I also rather have a shield as well extra protection.

There isn't a 'Best' Warrior Weapon but you can choose something you like the most. Weapon statistics can be found here:Clicky

This is the same as asking what is the best seconday profesion for your warrior.
Answer:there is no best.

In pvp most warriors use hammers in order to knock down their opponents and take advantage of that, either themselfs or other people spiking that person when they are down and unable to run.

In pve hammers are rare , but after the recent AI update this might change, but like Baltuck said it all depends on you and what you want to do.

Swords are so good for example that most sword builds dont require a sword elite.
Axes i believe are used the most to cause conditions.
Hammers are for knockdown and damage.

Do not make a choice out of what i have just said about each weapon best thing to do is check all the skills out and see what you like and weight that out with your playing style.

I was pulled to the hammer by its damage too, but in the end I began to feel like I wasn't doing enough because I attacked so slowly, so I switched to sword and packed Sever Artery, Gash and Dragon Slash. Haven't turned back since

Using any particular weapon type only affects your attack speed, not your movement speed. Swords and axes attack at the same rate, hammers attack slower. Hammers deal more damage while attacking less often and don't allow the use of a shield or off-hand. It's all balanced.

Why settle for one? Get an attribute helm + rune for each and use them all as desired, they are all fun to use.

I'm pretty sure that the overall DPS of a hammer is greater than the DPS of a sword or axe. Granted, axes are good for spikes, swords are good for conditions too. Yes, axes can be used for conditions, but I seem to see more sword builds that use conditions. (Sever Artery + Gash)

That looks a bit better. hmm, sundering...

Swords and Axes attack at the rate one hit per 1.33 seconds.
Hammers are at 1.75 seconds.

Sundering is completely inferior to Vampiric but is always more expensive.

Anyways, as was suggested above, you should have no problem going for all three. As a gross simplification I would say that swords are aimed more at pressure damage, axes are good for quick damage spikes, and hammers produce slightly slower but much more painful spikes. All are decent options for PvE, although I've always been a bit hammer-obscessed myself. The ability to make an enemy sit on the ground while you deliver a chain of damage skills should not be underestimated, especially when you are in tight aggro situations with this new AI.

And yes, Hammers have the highest overall DPS not considering skills.

One good thing i find with hammers is that they are usually cheaper to buy than most axes or swords out there.

Axes and Swords have the same attack speed but axe does a more variety of damage, sometimes higher than the sword but the sword has a more constant damage.

If you want to use hammers, use them in PvP. I'm not saying you can't use them in PvE it's just not as likely to hlpe you as much. I use axes because of the high damage output

Because the speed of a spike is not as important against AI opponents, hammers outdamage axes easily and by quite a bit..

Not only is that not a Warrior weapon, but I have yet to see a decent Dervish build that can actually outdamage a Warrior on a single target, or even without depending on so many enchantments that a Domination Mesmer could litterally solo it in seconds.

Default It depnds on what you are currently doing

It all depends on tha task at hand. If you pvp or gvg then hammer is best for knock downs. In PvE it all depends. Some missions and quests will prevent you from being effective using energy and since axe and hammer are more adr based attacks they are obviously a better chioce for those missions or quests

for example: Rotscale farming I use an axe.
I prefer the sword overall. I find its easier as a warrior to manage energy then adreline.. You can spam attackes faster with adr. and if you master that then the axe or hammer is best for you.

The best practive is to keep all types of weapons in your inventory.
I have
4 different types of swords
3 different hammers
2 axes
2 bows (I always carry a bow for pulling) Even with no attr to marksmanship you can still pull with a longbow)
